Kent Monkman is a multidisplinary artist of Cree descent who's work ranges
from painting, film/video, perfomance and installation. Monkman's work
examines the way North American indigenous history was represented by 19th
and 20th century artists such as George Caitlain. His work also explores
the impact of Christianity on indigenous culture, specifically, the
effects on gender and sexuality. His work has been exhibited
throughout the country and is represented in numerous private and public
collections such as The National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Ontario and
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Monkman currently lives and works in
Toronto.
